Children should be taught the principles and legacy of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna, emphasizing values such as dignity, discipline, service, and vision. This message was expressed by Tui Macuata, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, during the soft launch of Ratu Sukuna Day celebrations in Labasa. He noted that the event aims to engage young people and instill the understanding that true leadership is defined not by titles but by service, resilience, and commitment to a greater cause.
Ratu Wiliame encouraged attendees to use the upcoming celebrations, which will feature traditional ceremonies, educational programs, art, music, and storytelling, as an opportunity to remind children of who Ratu Sukuna was and inspire them to reach their potential. His life serves as a guide for the aspirations of youth across Fiji.
He pointed out that hosting the celebrations in Labasa acknowledges the Northern Division’s contributions to national development. Furthermore, it demonstrates that leadership transcends geographical boundaries. The late Ratu Sukuna significantly influenced Fiji’s modern foundations, known for his commitment to unity, education, and visionary leadership.
Under the theme “Celebrating Visionary Leadership in the North,” the celebrations will wrap up on Friday, underscoring the importance of instilling these values in the next generation as part of a broader commitment to community and national unity.
The focus on education and leadership resonates with ongoing themes in Fiji, where community leaders urge parental involvement in nurturing children’s development and reinforcing cultural values. This collaborative effort is crucial for building a brighter future, with hope that today’s youth, inspired by leaders like Ratu Sukuna, will become responsible citizens dedicated to their communities.
