Veteran Fijian Drua halfback and co-captain Frank Lomani will miss the remainder of the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season due to a dislocated shoulder that requires surgery. This unfortunate news was shared by head coach Glen Jackson, who also confirmed that Meli Derenalagi will join Lomani on the injured list for the season, marking a significant setback for the team.

In a recent statement, Jackson expressed his disappointment over losing both players, who have been key figures throughout the season. “They’ll be out for the season,” he remarked. Adding to the team’s injury woes, fullback Ilaisa Droasese is also unavailable due to a wrist injury suffered in previous matches, and Caleb Muntz is sidelined with a shoulder injury.

While these injury challenges loom over the team, there is a silver lining: openside flanker Kitione Salawa has fully recovered and will be available for selection in the upcoming match against the Waratahs. Jackson noted, “Salawa is fully fit and has been working hard.”

Despite currently sitting at the bottom of the points table with seven losses, Jackson remains optimistic about the future, asserting that the competition is still wide open. He urged fans to continue supporting the team during this difficult time, as the results have varied weekly, and fatigue may play a role as the season progresses.

The coach recognized the impact of fan criticism on the players, but he emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and positivity. “We’re talking positively to them,” Jackson stated, highlighting the necessity to lift the spirits of the young Drua players. He encouraged fans to be patient as his squad adapts to the challenges brought on by injuries, suggesting that this could be an opportunity for younger players to showcase their talent.

The upcoming match against the Waratahs will take place on Saturday and is seen as a crucial point for the Drua to turn their season around. With community support fueling their determination, there is hope that the team can navigate these injuries and emerge stronger.

As the Drua look to rally in the coming weeks, their resilience and the encouragement from their loyal fanbase may pave the way for a renewed drive in the Super Rugby Pacific competition.
