Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has warmly welcomed the Indian naval vessel INS Kadmatt to Fiji, marking a significant step in the collaborative efforts between the two nations to promote the Blue Pacific as a region of peace. This marks the fourth visit by an Indian naval ship to Fiji, each strengthening the bonds of trust and mutual respect between the countries.

During a reception on the deck of the INS Kadmatt, Professor Prasad expressed his expectations for continued naval visits and deepening cooperative partnerships to ensure the region remains peaceful. He extended his appreciation to the Indian government and navy for their role in supporting regional stability, commending the professionalism and dedication of the INS Kadmatt’s crew during their stay in Fiji.

Professor Prasad also acknowledged India’s significant investment under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation framework, which plays a crucial role in building a modern and capable defense force for Fiji. This includes training and technical support, enhancing Fiji’s defense capabilities within the Indo-Pacific region.

The recent visit by the INS Kadmatt resonates with previous diplomatic and defense initiatives, pointing to a sustained positive trajectory in Fiji-India relations. Prior exchanges have emphasized shared goals in sectors such as healthcare, climate resilience, education, and technology, extending beyond defense to foster regional stability and growth.

India’s commitment to promoting peace and security in the Indo-Pacific, supported by strong initiatives like the Ocean of Peace and India’s Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, highlights the shared aspirations for a secure and prosperous region. The deepening partnership promises not only to bolster Fiji’s defense capabilities but also to contribute to sustainable development and regional stability across the Blue Pacific.
