Fiji Weather Bulletin: Strong Southeast Winds Up to 45 km/h Across Coastal Areas

Weather Update from National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi

Issued at 1:28 PM on the ever-so-charming Wednesday, September 17th, 2025.

Batten down the hatches, folks—hold onto your hats and just about everything else that’s not nailed down! A strong wind warning is still doing its thing across coastal land areas of Ra-Rakiraki, Southern Bua, Eastern Macuata, Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti Groups, Taveuni, and a medley of smaller islands, including Kadavu.

What’s up with the atmosphere, you ask? We’ve got a southeast wind flow sauntering over the group, bringing its friend: breezy southeast winds with speeds tickling up to 45km/hr across Ra-Rakiraki, Southern Bua, Eastern Macuata, and those aforementioned delightful places.

For the rest of you in the Fiji group not donning windbreakers, it’s moderate-to-fresh winds blowing with style. Oh, and seas are rough—great for extreme surfers, not so much for leisurely boat rides.

Cloudy skies and occasional showers are out for a stroll over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, and a few others—it’s like they coordinated a weather club meeting. Expect fine weather to moonlight elsewhere with some cool nights settling in.

Looking ahead to Friday: Those southeast winds will still be strutting their stuff, easing into a more mellow pace by evening. Cloudy hangouts continue with some showers crashing the party. And for those with a penchant for cool nights, your wish is granted.

Now, for our delightful cities:

Navua / Suva / Nausori: Cloudy, a few showers popping in to say hi, with temperatures due to hit a high of 27°C today and tomorrow. Your nights should be delightfully cool with lows down to 18°C by Friday.

Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Mainly fine with a dash of cool nights. The thermometer’s aiming for a high of 30°C today, tomorrow, and Friday, with lows touching 18°C on that day. Expect possible playful showers in the afternoon or evening.

Sigatoka / Coral Coast: Sunnier spirits here with skies mostly clear and cool nights. Today’s temperature peaks at 28°C, pushing up to 29°C tomorrow. Friday’s playbook says highs of 30°C with some surprises from possible isolated showers.

Tavua / Rakiraki: Watch out for those 45km/hr winds today. It’s fine otherwise with cool nights, maxing at 30°C. Friday revels in the same windy dance, easing later, with temps swirling between 18°C and 30°C.

Natadradave / Korovou: A bit grey with some showers and cool nights here. Temperatures stick at a peak of 28°C today, nudging down tomorrow. Friday echoes today but with a touch more chill in the night air.

Yasawa / Mamanuca Group: Expect strong southeast winds up to 45km/hr, sunny day vibes, and cool nights. Peaks rise to 28°C today, hitting 29°C tomorrow. Like a broken record of lovely weather, Friday will be similar.

In Labasa (our hot contender): It’s all sunshine and coolness—30°C now, 31°C highs expected. Watch out; Friday could see some surprise showers while maintaining cool nights as your forecasted company.

Savusavu & Others: Cloudy with sprinkles of showers grace Savusavu at 27°C. The pattern repeats with cool nights and slightly warmer Friday highs.

In Rotuma, the wind isn’t giving up just yet—strong southeast flows persist with waves having a party offshore. Current highs are cosy at 30°C under mainly fine skies but cloudy fun showers might break the monotony from tomorrow. Friday looks promising for brief showers but a continual bask in warmth.

Stay safe and keep your kite-steering skills on standby!
