India’s Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Nimuben Bambhaniya, emphasized the growing collaboration between India and Fiji following productive discussions with Fiji’s agricultural leaders in New Delhi. During her interactions with Fiji’s Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Tomasi Tunabuna, and Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Charan Jeath Singh, both parties explored avenues to enhance cooperation in agriculture and ensure food security.
Bambhaniya remarked on the significance of the discussions, which mainly concentrated on modernizing sugar mills, enhancing agricultural development, and implementing advanced storage facilities to bolster food security. She noted that these engagements further solidify the strong cultural and economic bonds between the two nations.
The talks highlighted a mutual dedication to fostering sustainable agricultural growth and increasing resilience in food systems, particularly in the essential sugar sector that plays a critical role in the economies of both countries. Additionally, Bambhaniya’s visit coincided with her participation in Indusfood 2026, an international food and beverage exhibition recognized as Asia’s premier trade platform. She pointed out the exhibition as a pivotal opportunity for networking among governments, businesses, and investors.
“Indusfood serves as an essential international platform for business engagement, policy dialogue, and the establishment of long-term partnerships in food and agriculture,” Bambhaniya stated. Both India and Fiji cherish a rich history of cultural and people-to-people connections, with a shared commitment to expanding collaboration across agriculture, trade, and sustainable development initiatives.
The ongoing dialogue and partnerships between India and Fiji symbolize a positive step towards reinforcing global ties and fostering agricultural innovation, promising a future of enhanced food security and economic resilience for both countries.
