After 16 months away from home, Sergeant Peni Rokosuli experienced an emotional reunion with his family, highlighting the challenges many service members face during their deployments. The 31-year-old sergeant was welcomed back by his wife, Asena Rokosuli, and daughter, Sosefina, during a heartfelt homecoming parade at Albert Park following his service with the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

Sgt. Rokosuli was deployed to Babylon in August of 2024, where he devoted a total of one year and four months to his mission. Reflecting on his experience, he described the difficulties of adjusting to a new environment, including the climate, food, and various daily responsibilities.

“Serving in a foreign country was a challenging experience, especially adapting to the weather and the local cuisine,” he noted. Despite these challenges, he expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support and prayers from the people of Fiji for all troops deployed in the region.

“I am glad and happy to be back home and to be reunited with my wife and daughter,” Sgt. Rokosuli said with joy. He humorously added, “I know I owe my wife a long overdue date night,” which emphasizes the personal sacrifices service members make while serving abroad.

This reunion illustrates the resilience and strength of military families, showcasing the love and support that remains constant, even during the toughest times apart. Sgt. Rokosuli’s return is a testament to the dedicated service of those working for peace and stability in challenging regions around the world.
