As Hindus across Fiji prepare to celebrate the vibrant festival of Holi, the Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha has made a poignant call for drug abuse awareness. In light of the escalating concerns surrounding substance misuse, particularly among the youth, the Sabha emphasizes the importance of this occasion as a time for both joy and social reflection.

National Secretary Krishneel Tiwari articulated that the joyous festival should not only celebrate cultural expressions but also serve as a reminder of the responsibilities shared by the community. He noted that the impact of drug abuse is a serious issue that continues to challenge families and local communities throughout Fiji. Tiwari underscored the essence of Holi, which is centered around self-discipline, mental purity, and positive living, as crucial principles that can aid in combatting these issues.

Holi, marking the triumph of good over evil and truth over deception, draws inspiration from the biblical story of Prahlad and Holika. It embodies themes of faith, devotion, and a pure heart, illustrating that such virtues can ultimately lead to victory. The festival not only signifies forgiveness and the renewal of relationships but also aims to strengthen harmony within families and communities. As participants share colors, sweets, and joyous moments, Holi gathers people together, fostering love, equality, and unity among all, irrespective of their social backgrounds.

In his message, Tiwari wished the Hindu community and the broader Fijian populace a joyous Holi, while stressing that celebrations must be undertaken with a sense of responsibility. He also acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Education for designating a religious holiday for all Sanatan Dharm schools to honour the observance of Holi.

As the festival draws near, many will engage in the traditional practices of coloring one another with vibrant powders, using water guns and balloons, and celebrating together through music and dance as they immerse themselves in the festive spirit. This Holi not only brings festive cheer but also an opportunity to reflect on significant social issues.
