Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union (FSSRU) is marking a significant milestone as the Vodafone Deans finals will be held at Govind Park in Ba for the first time in the tournament’s history. This change comes after the FSSRU had to reschedule all Deans and Weet-Bix Raluve competition venues due to the unavailability of the HFC Bank Stadium, which has faced ground conditions that prompted discontent from both spectators and officials, including Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
The quarterfinals will kick off next weekend at Prince Charles Park and Churchill Park, transitioning to the semifinals at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on August 16. The decision to move the finals from their usual venue represents a new direction for the tournament, which is expected to broaden its audience and engagement, particularly in the western division.
Despite the challenge of the stadium conditions, the FSSRU remains committed to providing a platform for young athletes while ensuring competitive integrity. The Raluve national quarterfinals will also take place at Burkhurst and Bidesi Parks in Suva this weekend, with selected matches available for viewing on FBC 2 and for overseas audiences on the streaming platform Viti+ for $FJD39.
This proactive approach by the FSSRU illustrates their dedication to promoting youth rugby and adapting to unforeseen circumstances, ensuring that players continue to have opportunities to showcase their skills and passion for the sport.
