Magistrate Semi Babitu has directed foreign national Chukwuemeka Phabian to submit a formal bail application at the Lautoka High Court during his next court appearance set for June 2. Phabian faces serious charges related to the unlawful importation of drugs, specifically over four kilograms of methamphetamine, which were seized in a collaborative enforcement operation by the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and the Fiji Police Force.
Phabian’s legal troubles are compounded by an additional charge for breaching the conditions of his visitor’s visa, leading to implications under the Prohibited Immigrant section of the Immigration Act 2003. It has been revealed that he is linked to a broader network of drug trafficking, associated with three other defendants—Apenisa Matadigo, Viliame Nalago, and Are Tania—who have already been presented in court for similar offenses.
