A senior official from the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has been charged with involvement in the importation of over four kilograms of methamphetamine, recently seized at Nadi International Airport. This significant development is part of an ongoing investigation led by Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and handled by the Criminal Investigations Department’s Major Crime Unit. The investigation aims to uncover the broader network behind this attempted drug smuggling operation.

With this latest charge, the total number of individuals charged in connection with this case rises to seven. The senior official faces serious accusations, including one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs and another for breaching the Oath of Secrecy under the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service Act 1998. It is alleged that he disclosed confidential information obtained during his official duties, marking a troubling violation of trust.

The official is set to appear at the Nadi Magistrates Court on Monday, 26 May 2025, as investigations continue. Past cases within this ongoing investigation, including those involving officers from the Counter Narcotics Bureau, highlight the challenges of potential corruption within law enforcement. Other charged individuals in related incidents point to a complex web of alleged drug trafficking activities within Fiji.

These efforts underscore the rigorous commitment by Fijian authorities to combat drug trafficking. Collaborative operations between the Fiji Police Force and the FRCS have led to significant drug seizures and arrests, reflecting a proactive stance against organized drug networks operating in the region.

The ongoing investigations are marked by a focus on dismantling these illicit operations, with law enforcement dedicated to ensuring public safety and health. There is hope that the concerted efforts of authorities will lead to a decline in drug-related offenses in the community, fostering a safer environment for all residents. The determined actions of law enforcement provide promising signs that significant progress can be made in the fight against drug trafficking in Fiji.
