Heavy Rain and Strong Wind Warnings for Fiji: May 11, 2025 Weather Update

Weather Update

Attention all weather enthusiasts, rain lovers, and those who just want to know if they can wear their favorite raincoat! The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has rolled out some significant weather news this lovely Sunday morning, the 11th of May 2025. Spoiler alert: it’s gonna be a soggy one!

First off, hold on to your umbrellas! A heavy rain warning is in full effect across the entire Fiji group. For those attempting to escape the downpour, we have a strong wind warning in place for our coastal pals along the wild eastern and southern shores of Viti Levu – from Sigatoka to Coral Coast to Navua to Suva to Korovou to Rakiraki – that’s quite the trek, but make sure to hold onto your hats if you’re in this neck of the woods!

Currently, we find ourselves in the embrace of a trough of low pressure, which I’m sure is giving everyone a warm hug – and by “warm,” I mean damp and somewhat chilly. Expect those cheeky east to northerly winds whipping up to 46 km/hr across those coastal areas. If you were planning on a calm day on the water, think again! Rough seas are on the horizon. Meanwhile, the rest of Fiji can expect moderate breezes, about as smooth as a toddler on a sugar rush.

Rain? Oh, you bet! Occasional showers will be making dramatic entrances today, accompanied by heavy downpours and a few sassy thunderstorms crashing the party. There’s a chance of isolated heavy rain causing flash flooding for our low-lying friends. So if you notice your shoes getting soggier, that’s not just your imagination!

Looking ahead to Monday: get ready for some more of that classic tropical weather! Expect showers in Navua, Suva, Nausori, and other beautiful spots, with a chance of heavy falls strutting their stuff in the afternoon – because why not?

Now, let’s break it down by area:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Prepare for the occasional rain, with chances of a thunderstorm (a perfect excuse to cancel plans).
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: The sky will treat you to sporadic heavy rainstrikes and the occasional light show.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Similar story here, keep that raincoat handy!
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Occasional rain with a touch of thunder, just for dramatic effect.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: They didn’t forget about you – expect typical rainy weather.

For our friends over at Savusavu, Labasa, and the beautiful Lau/Lomaiviti regions: you’ll also be graced with rain and possibly some thunder (hello, sound effects!).

Oh, and good news for Rotuma! A strong wind warning has been declared over your waters too. Expect northwesterly winds swirling like there’s a disco party in the sky, along with some heavy rains and thunder to dance along with you.

So whether you’re dodging raindrops or basking under cloudy skies, let’s embrace this weather with open arms and, perhaps, a good book by the window. Stay safe and dry, folks!
