A 67-year-old farmer from Nadi, Satya Narayan, has become the first patient to successfully undergo heart bypass surgery with the assistance of the Pacific Specialist Hospital Foundation. In a heartwarming twist, Narayan had been singing folk songs to raise funds for his surgery when he learned he would be the inaugural beneficiary of this initiative, which aims to help those in urgent need of medical services.

Narayan expressed his gratitude, stating how he never expected to receive his much-needed surgery so swiftly, highlighting the critical role that the Pacific Specialist Hospital Foundation and the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji played in facilitating his treatment.

Dr. Sanjeev Khulbey, the surgeon who performed the operation, noted that Narayan suffered from severe heart disease, and this surgery marks just the beginning of the foundation’s efforts to provide heart surgeries to those in need. PSH Chief Executive Parvish Kumar echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the hope that Narayan’s successful surgery brings not just to him but to the broader community.

The Pacific Specialist Hospital Foundation is actively collaborating with various faith-based organizations to identify individuals requiring similar medical assistance, aiming to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for residents across Fiji and the broader Pacific Islands. Kumar underlined the foundation’s commitment to offering free or subsidized medical services to those facing financial hardships.

This initiative represents a significant advancement in healthcare for Fiji, as it enables patients to receive essential surgical procedures locally, drastically reducing the costs associated with traveling abroad for treatment. The successful operation of Narayan illustrates the positive impact that community-driven healthcare improvements can have on individual lives.

Overall, this development not only promises a brighter future for those needing cardiac care in Fiji but also fosters a sense of community and support, showcasing the potential for local healthcare advancements to transform lives.
