The Kadavu Medical Team, in partnership with the medical staff at Sai Prema Children’s Hospital, successfully carried out their inaugural ECHO Outreach day for children at Daviqele in Nabukelevu. This program aimed at conducting echocardiograms, which are essential for identifying heart conditions such as damage from heart attacks, heart failure, and congenital heart defects.
To overcome transportation challenges, the Ministry facilitated free transport for both the children and their guardians, ensuring that everyone could access the screening without any barriers.
A remarkable total of 395 children were screened during this outreach, leading to the detection of 19 new cases of Rheumatic Heart Disease, excluding those identified with Congenital Heart Disease.
This initiative showcases the commitment to child health and highlights the importance of regular heart screenings in early diagnosis and treatment. By addressing logistical issues and bringing critical healthcare services to the community, the Kadavu Medical Team and Sai Prema Children’s Hospital are setting a positive precedent for future outreach efforts. It encourages a hopeful outlook on the continued collaboration aimed at improving children’s health in remote areas.
In summary, this outreach day is a significant step forward in community health, making vital cardiac screenings accessible to children who need it the most, and reaffirming the community’s commitment to health equity and proactive healthcare solutions.
