The police continue to visit former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum as part of their investigation related to his bail variation application. Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Loraini Seru, confirmed this ongoing inquiry.
Sayed-Khaiyum’s lawyer, Gul Fatima, reported that police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited him at the hospital on Tuesday evening and returned again yesterday. His bail variation hearing is scheduled for Monday, where crucial decisions regarding his legal status will be made.
This situation is linked to Sayed-Khaiyum’s prior hearing on bail variations, during which he requested permission to travel to Singapore for urgent medical treatment. His defense attorney has previously pointed out that the State had sufficient time to prepare for the bail hearings. Notably, the case involves serious charges including abuse of office, which could have significant implications for Sayed-Khaiyum’s future.
The emphasis on Sayed-Khaiyum’s health adds another layer of complexity to the legal proceedings. With his medical condition being a primary factor in the discussions, it remains to be seen how this will impact the court’s decision.
As the legal proceedings unfold, there is a ray of hope that a timely and accurate assessment of Sayed-Khaiyum’s health might allow him to actively participate in his defense as these legal challenges continue.
