The Mount Zion Cathedral Choir, a vibrant collective that resonates with the spirit of Fiji, has captivated audiences for over 53 years. Originally founded as the Lautoka Full Gospel Tabernacle Choir in 1968, the ensemble has evolved into a symbol of faith and musical expression within the community.

With its unique blend of traditional hymns, gospel, and indigenous melodies, the choir creates a harmonious atmosphere within the church, extending its uplifting influence into the surrounding neighborhoods. The choir has been a source of joy and comfort, exemplifying the profound connection between music and spirituality.

Under the leadership of Rev. Manoa Tulele, who has been with the choir since 1987 and took the role of music director in 2018, the choir has maintained a standard of excellence. His guidance has been fortified by dedication to prayer, fasting, and a resilient spirit. The choir plays a pivotal role in shaping the worship experience, with careful selection of songs that foster spiritual engagement and create a welcoming environment for congregants.

Throughout its history, the choir has not only flourished locally but also made a mark internationally, embarking on tours to places like Tonga, the United States, and Australia. These journeys have allowed them to share their powerful music further afield, showcasing their rich heritage and deep-rooted passion.

Notably, the choir’s legacy includes works from distinguished composers such as the late Reverend Filimoni Kama and Reverend Thomas Elliot, enhancing its repertoire with profound spiritual messages. This robust history demonstrates the choir’s enduring influence and its role as a vital ministry tool aimed at reaching and uplifting souls through music.

In celebration of their commitment and evolution, the Mount Zion Cathedral Choir looks forward to its upcoming 54th year, continuing to inspire and enrich lives through the transformative power of music.

By recognizing the choir’s significant contributions to both local and global musical landscapes, we can appreciate the positive role it plays in cultivating a deeper sense of community and faith.
