Farmers and their families from Kavala in Kadavu celebrated the inauguration of the Grow Plus greenhouse last week, a significant initiative designed to enhance sustainable agriculture and improve livelihoods in the region.
This project was launched through the Grow Plus program by British American Tobacco Fiji in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture. The new greenhouse will supply local farmers with high-quality vegetable seedlings, including popular varieties such as eggplants, chilies, and tomatoes.
The greenhouse is specifically designed to create a controlled environment, safeguarding the seedlings against pests and diseases, which will ensure a steady production of crops throughout the year.
This initiative, launched on Friday, is not only aimed at empowering rural farmers but also focuses on creating alternative income streams, ultimately reducing dependence on produce sourced from outside communities. Such projects are pivotal in fostering local economies and promoting food security within the region.
