The Public Service Commission (PSC) has officially announced a reshuffle involving three Permanent Secretaries, an initiative that will take effect on February 3, 2025. This strategic move reflects an ongoing effort by the government to enhance leadership capabilities within key ministries.
Dr. Raijeli Taga, currently serving as the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, is set to transition to the role of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In her place, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala will move from his position at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to become the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister. Additionally, Dr. Korovavala will also take on the responsibilities of Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration, reporting directly to the Minister of Immigration.
Mr. Manasa Lesuma, who is currently the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, has expanded his role as he has been serving as Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing since January 14, 2025.
Chairman of the PSC, Luke Rokovada, stated that these changes aim to optimize administrative effectiveness and address issues related to workload distribution among government officials. This comprehensive reshuffle underscores a commitment to promoting local talent within the public service, ensuring that skilled professionals are in pivotal positions to enhance governance and service delivery.
This adjustment aligns with previous efforts to bolster leadership roles across the government, indicating a proactive approach to nurturing local expertise and fostering a responsive administrative environment. Overall, the reshuffle not only signifies a change in personnel but also brings hope for improved efficiency and effective governance in Fiji’s public sector.
In summary, these leadership changes represent a strategic pivot toward enhancing public service capabilities and responsiveness, paving the way for a future where governance effectively meets the needs of its citizens.
