The Public Service Commission (PSC) has officially declared a significant reshuffle of three Permanent Secretaries, which will take effect on February 3, 2025. This strategic adjustment, made in consultation with the Prime Minister, aims to bolster leadership and improve administrative effectiveness within key government ministries.

According to PSC Chairman Luke Rokovada, Dr. Raijeli Taga, currently serving as the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will transition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In turn, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, who is presently in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will succeed Dr. Taga at the Office of the Prime Minister. Dr. Lesi will also take on additional responsibilities as Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration, reporting directly to the Minister of Immigration. Meanwhile, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, has been assigned to serve as Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing since January 14, 2025.

This reshuffle reflects the government’s commitment to optimizing leadership roles and ensuring that skilled professionals are at the helm of essential ministries. The PSC emphasizes that this realignment is not merely an administrative change but a proactive step toward enhanced governance, accountability, and service delivery to citizens.

The changes come at a time when the public service landscape is evolving, and this new positioning of leaders is intended to leverage local expertise to tackle challenges more effectively. The government’s focus on nurturing local talent and encouraging skilled individuals in management roles sets a hopeful direction for public administration in Fiji, suggesting a commitment to improved efficiency and responsiveness in governance.

In summary, the reshuffling of Permanent Secretaries marks a strategic initiative aimed at improving the effectiveness and accountability of Fiji’s public service, paving the way for a more responsive and dynamic administrative framework that aspires to better meet the needs of its citizens.
