The Public Service Commission (PSC) has confirmed a significant reshuffle of several Permanent Secretaries, effective February 3, 2025, aimed at enhancing leadership within key ministries alongside the Prime Minister’s agreement. Dr. Raijeli Taga, currently the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will transition to become the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs. Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, presently in the Foreign Affairs position, will succeed Dr. Taga at the Office of the Prime Minister and will also take on the role of Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration, reporting to the Minister of Immigration.
In addition to these changes, Manasa Lesuma, who has been serving as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, will assume the responsibilities of Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing, a role he began on January 14, 2025.
Chairman of the PSC, Luke Rokovada, stated that this reshuffle is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to optimize leadership capabilities across essential sectors. This initiative reflects a commitment to ensuring that qualified individuals lead ministries effectively, fostering responsiveness and accountability in governance.
The continuing trend of prioritizing local talent in leadership positions emphasizes confidence in the capabilities of Fijian professionals. This reshuffling not only lays the groundwork for efficient administration but also signals a hopeful outlook for the country’s governance as it adapts to meet future challenges.
In summary, this strategic adjustment in leadership roles illustrates the government’s commitment to improving service delivery while cultivating growth and innovation within public administration. As these experienced leaders step into their new roles, the potential for positive advancements in governance and public service efficiency appears promising.
