The Public Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Prime Minister, has announced a significant reshuffle of three Permanent Secretaries, set to take effect on February 3, 2025. This decision aims to strengthen leadership across key ministries and optimize administrative effectiveness.

Dr. Raijeli Taga, currently serving as the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will transition to the role of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Taking her place will be Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, who will move from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Office of the Prime Minister and also take on the responsibilities of Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration, reporting directly to the Minister of Immigration.

Additionally, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, will expand his duties to include serving as the Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing starting from January 14, 2025.

Chairman of the PSC, Luke Rokovada, emphasized that these changes reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance governance and ensure effective management within essential sectors. This reshuffle is part of a broader initiative to optimize workload distribution among government officials and enhance service delivery to the public.

Such strategic realignments in leadership roles signify a commitment to nurturing local talent and promoting accountability in public service. The PSC believes that these adjustments will lead to innovative solutions to administrative challenges and pave the way for a more responsive governance structure in Fiji.

In summary, the reshuffle indicates a proactive approach by the Fijian government to enhance public administration, demonstrating a dedication to effective governance and service delivery. This shift not only promises improved management across ministries but also sets a hopeful tone for the future of Fiji’s public service, as it continues to evolve and respond to the needs of its citizens.
