The Coalition Government is contemplating the possibility of providing direct grants to the School Management Association of Fiji to enhance their operations. This intention was revealed by Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, during the association’s biennial conference held in Nausori.
Professor Prasad emphasized the government’s commitment to fortifying partnerships with the association. He expressed, “I can promise you that we will seriously consider your proposal to provide grants to the school management association so that you can effectively organize and function as a group.” He highlighted the vital role these individuals play, stating, “You are not just caretakers and administrators; all of you are leaders in your community. All of you are influencers. All of you can make a significant difference to the quality of education of our children.”
During his address, Prasad pointed out that engagement from parents and school management is crucial in addressing key issues, particularly the challenges posed by drug problems in schools. He encouraged school managers to take active roles in their institutions and to bolster parent-teacher associations, as well as engagement between schools and teachers.
The Minister noted that these collaborative efforts are vital in fostering participation from teachers, students, and parents, thereby improving the overall educational landscape.
In summary, the government’s potential financial support signifies a positive step towards enhancing educational management in Fiji, benefiting not just the school management bodies, but ultimately improving the quality of education for children across the nation. This initiative could lead to stronger community bonds and a more robust educational framework, fostering a healthier environment for learning and teaching.
