The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team has found motivation in self-belief throughout their Vodafone Deans Trophy journey. This sentiment was shared by GHS principal Iliesa Parker during an interview with SUNsports.
GHS made headlines by pulling off a stunning upset against the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School, winning 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday. Parker mentioned that coaches have been focusing on areas for improvement as the team prepares for the semifinals.
He expressed concern about some players dealing with minor injuries but remains hopeful for their recovery by Saturday. Parker praised the remarkable performance of his players against RKS, noting that it’s a historic moment for GHS, marking their first time reaching the Deans semi-finals in any grade.
The team enjoys strong support from parents, alumni, and school management. Parker emphasized the advantage of having a skilled coaching staff and reminded players to maintain discipline both academically and in training.
The players are excited about playing in the stadium for the first time on Saturday and are eager to face a championship team like Marist, who they have yet to compete against this season. Parker expressed pride in facing the defending champions and encouraged GHS supporters to wear the school’s colors—pink, white, and blue—to the match.
He called on fans to come out in full force to support the team and extended good wishes to other schools participating in the semi-finals.
