Golf Fiji’s president, Amitesh Chandra, has announced ambitious plans for the organization as it looks ahead to 2025. Central to this vision are initiatives aimed at increasing international representation, enhancing junior development, and bolstering support for local golfers.
As part of its preparations for the World Amateur Team Championship to be hosted in Singapore in October 2025, Golf Fiji has commenced trials to identify the best players who will represent the nation at this esteemed event. Excitingly, Fijian golfers Shakil Pillay and Rajat Rai are set to embark on their journey at the NEC Master of Amateur Golf Championship in Melbourne, Australia, scheduled for January 2025. In recognition of their previous accomplishments at the Asian Amateur Golf Championship in 2024, Golf Fiji has allocated $5,000 to support their participation.
At the grassroots level, Golf Fiji is committed to enhancing its collaboration with local clubs, including Fiji Golf Club, Ba, Lautoka, and Novotel Golf Course in Nadi. These clubs have demonstrated promising junior programs, and Golf Fiji plans to continue providing financial and coaching support to cultivate young talent and expand the sport within communities.
Chandra emphasized the critical role of partnerships, expressing gratitude toward sponsors for their support in 2024 and expressing hope for ongoing collaboration in 2025. He highlighted that these partnerships will be vital in broadening the organization’s event calendar and achieving its long-term objectives.
The initiatives outlined by Golf Fiji signal a bright future for the sport in the region, fostering local talent and encouraging international participation. With continued investment in grassroots programs and strategic partnerships, Golf Fiji is paving the way for a thriving golfing community.
This proactive approach not only promises to elevate the standard of golf in Fiji but also serves as an inspiration for young athletes aspiring to make their mark in the sport.
