Amitesh Chandra, president of Golf Fiji, has unveiled ambitious plans for 2025 that emphasize increasing international representation, fostering junior development, and enhancing support for local golfers.
In preparation for the World Amateur Team Championship scheduled for October 2025 in Singapore, Golf Fiji has already initiated trials to select the most capable team to represent the country at this esteemed competition.
Fijian golfers Shakil Pillay and Rajat Rai are preparing for their participation in the NEC Master of Amateur Golf Championship in Melbourne, Australia, in January 2025. To support their journey, Golf Fiji has allocated $5,000, a decision influenced by their impressive performance at the Asian Amateur Golf Championship in 2024.
At a grassroots level, Golf Fiji is committed to strengthening its partnerships with local clubs, including Fiji Golf Club, Ba, Lautoka, and Novotel Golf Course in Nadi. Recognizing the potential of their junior programs, Golf Fiji plans to continue providing financial assistance and coaching to develop young talent and promote the sport within communities.
Chandra emphasized the importance of collaboration by thanking sponsors for their support in 2024, expressing hope that these partnerships will continue to flourish in 2025. He highlighted that these collaborations are vital for expanding the events calendar and achieving Golf Fiji’s long-term aspirations.
Overall, Golf Fiji’s strategic focus on youth and community engagement, alongside international opportunities, sets a promising path for the growth of golf in Fiji. This commitment not only reflects the organization’s dedication to the sport but also creates a hopeful future for young golfers in the region.
