Lautoka’s Saula Waqa and Rewa’s John Orobulu emerged as the top scorers in the 2024 Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice-Cream Battle of the Giants held in Suva yesterday. Each player netted six goals over the course of the five-day tournament.
Orobulu, a striker for the Solomon Islands national team, showcased his talent with four goals during Rewa’s dominant 8-1 victory over Nadroga in the group stage and contributed two goals in their 5-0 win against Ba, which secured their place in the semifinals.
Waqa, for his part, scored twice against Labasa in the group stages and added a crucial goal in Lautoka’s win over Navua that led them to the semifinals. He followed up with two goals in the 5-3 semifinal win against Rewa and converted a penalty in the final match against Nadi.
Both athletes were recognized for their achievements with shopping vouchers worth $1,000 each, provided by Extra Supermarket and Mirchi FM.
