The WOWS Kids Foundation raised an impressive $28,000 during its Christmas Gala fundraising event held on Saturday. These funds will be instrumental in supporting the foundation’s vital efforts to provide resources and assistance to children diagnosed with cancer in Fiji.

Sina Kami, the founding director of WOWS Kids, addressed the attendees and expressed her heartfelt gratitude for their contributions to the successful event. She emphasized that every donation, regardless of its size, significantly impacts the foundation’s mission. Reflecting on the organization’s 17-year history, Kami shared a poignant message about the challenges they have faced, stating, “We lost one girl and a daughter, but we gained so many.” This underscores the foundation’s resilience and dedication.

Kami acknowledged that the foundation’s achievements are a collective effort, highlighting the essential role of the dedicated team, including team leaders and board members, who work tirelessly to support the children. “We are the eyes, hands, legs, and heart that beats for our children,” she stated.

A major point of discussion during the gala was the foundation’s need to enhance the facilities at their resource center. Kami noted that the current center is too small to host larger events like family fun days and mentioned their ongoing request to the government for a larger plot of land to build a more suitable facility. “We have approached the government and the ministry, asking for land, not for us but to build a better resource centre for the children of Fiji,” she explained.

This event demonstrates the power of community engagement in addressing critical health issues, showing that when people come together for a common cause, meaningful change can occur. The funds raised not only help children in need but also reinforce the foundation’s commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of families facing cancer.

In summary, the WOWS Kids Foundation’s fundraising efforts exemplify hope and resilience, fostering a community spirit that is crucial in supporting children battling cancer. With continued support, they can expand their facilities and improve their outreach for those in need.
