The Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) has announced its intention to create five new positions within its Secretariat, following a two-day meeting chaired by Ratu Viliame Seruvakula. The roles to be advertised include a Specialist in Education, a Law Research Officer, an Economist, and a Communications Officer. This initiative is part of the council’s broader strategy to improve the education sector, enhance legal and governance perspectives, and develop effective communication strategies aimed at fostering public awareness.
Ratu Viliame emphasized that strengthening the communication strategy is particularly crucial. He noted, “We need a good communication strategy to get the message out there to the people, especially our young generation.” This reflects the GCC’s commitment to ensuring that its objectives and authority are well understood, especially in relation to future generations. The academic requirements for these positions will range from Master’s degrees to Doctorates, indicating the council’s aim for high qualifications among its staff.
The adjustments come in the context of the GCC’s recent activities, which include discussions on enhancing governance effectiveness and addressing socio-economic challenges faced by the iTaukei community.
