Starting tomorrow, families in Fiji will need to adjust their budgets as fuel, gas, and kerosene prices are set to rise. According to the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission, these new prices for December 2024 reflect the costs of refined fuel and butane imported by local fuel and LPG companies in October 2024.
The price of unleaded fuel will see an increase from $2.62 to $2.67 per liter. Diesel prices are going up by 9 cents, reaching $2.27 per liter, while premix fuel will rise by 8 cents to $2.51 per liter. Kerosene prices are also on the rise, increasing by 7 cents to $1.74 per liter.
In terms of gas prices, the cost for a 12kg cylinder has jumped by $10.1 to $40.92, and a 4.5kg gas cylinder will now be $15.35, reflecting an increase of 38 cents. Additionally, LPG prices will rise by 8 cents, now costing $3.16.
The FCCC stated that fluctuations in the Means of Platts Singapore, along with changes in international freight rates and foreign exchange rates, contribute to the adjustments in fuel prices in Fiji.
These price increases may strain household budgets, but it is important to consider the global economic context influencing these changes. Families may explore energy conservation methods or alternative energy sources to mitigate the impact on their finances.
