Starting tomorrow, Fijian families will face increased costs for fuel, gas, and kerosene. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) announced that the prices for fuel and LPG for December 2024 are determined by the refined fuel and butane imports made by local fuel and LPG companies in October 2024.

The price of unleaded fuel will rise from $2.62 to $2.67 per liter. Diesel will see a 9-cent increase, reaching $2.27 per liter. The cost of premix fuel will go up by 8 cents to $2.51 per liter, while kerosene will increase by 7 cents, now priced at $1.74 per liter.

In terms of gas, the price for a 12kg cylinder has jumped by $10.10, bringing it to $40.92. Meanwhile, a 4.5kg gas cylinder will now cost $15.35, reflecting an increase of 38 cents. LPG will also see a price increase of 8 cents, setting the new cost at $3.16.

The FCCC notes that these price adjustments are influenced by fluctuations in the Means of Platts Singapore, international freight rates, and foreign exchange rates.

While rising fuel prices can be challenging for households, they also highlight the necessity for consumers to consider alternative energy sources and practices to mitigate reliance on traditional fuels. Adapting to these changes might also encourage the exploration of more sustainable energy solutions in the long term.
