Returning to education after more than a decade was a significant leap of faith for Daiana Radrodro, who understood the value of learning amid life’s challenges. Ms. Radrodro reflected on her high school years, where she struggled with peer pressure and found herself lost in the wrong crowd, leading to frequent absences from class.
Recently, she proudly accepted the dux award from Nabua Secondary School’s Matua Program during a prize-giving ceremony, standing alongside her father to celebrate this remarkable achievement. Ms. Radrodro shared her journey of hardship, particularly as a single mother trying to support her two children. She reached a point where she turned to prayer, realizing that education was her path out of poverty.
“It was a crucial decision I had to make, knowing the state I was in, being a single mother and trying to provide for my children,” she stated. Despite facing numerous obstacles, including a car accident that disrupted her studies, Ms. Radrodro displayed remarkable resilience, recovering and returning to her education.
“The world can be tough; even with a job, it’s often just a paycheck from one week to the next,” she said. “Today, qualifications matter more than ever.” Encouraging others in similar circumstances, she added, “As Fijians, we may feel embarrassed by our age and failures, but we must stand up and grow.”
At just 28 years old, Ms. Radrodro aspires to continue her education at the University of the South Pacific, focusing on Social Work and Politics. Her father, Alipate Radrodro, expressed gratitude for his daughter’s determination, stating that the family wholeheartedly supported her decision to resume her studies.
