In an inspiring moment, 32-year-old Manaini Lesavua from Nawaka, Nadi, expressed deep gratitude and emotions as she reflected on her mother’s significant sacrifices to help fund her university education while simultaneously caring for four young children.

Ms. Lesavua proudly graduated from the Fiji National University (FNU) College of Humanities with a Trade Diploma in Baking and Patisserie. She was one of around 200 students who celebrated their graduation at the Vodafone Arena in Laucala Bay, Suva. Holding her three children close, she recounted the challenges of being both a dedicated mother and a full-time student.

“I know my parents are proud of me, and even though my father is not physically present, I am certain he is proud of my achievements today,” Ms. Lesavua stated. She expressed heartfelt thanks to her mother for the journey they had taken together, acknowledging the difficulties her mother faced in supporting her education and the opportunities afforded to her as a result.

Ms. Lesavua shared that she was a private student and that her mother worked tirelessly to gather the necessary funds for her schooling. Her husband also played a crucial role, taking on household duties to support her as she continued her studies after the birth of their second child.

Proudly stating, “I am receiving my certificate for the Trade Diploma in Baking and Patisserie,” she dedicated her success to her family and all who supported her. Currently serving as a security officer with Wormald Fire and Security, Ms. Lesavua encouraged youth to stay resilient and focused on their goals.

With aspirations to pursue a bachelor’s degree in tourism, she smiled as she encouraged her younger siblings to persevere, stating, “Never give up, and always remember that the sky is the limit.” Despite the significant challenge of managing her studies alongside raising four children, aged seven years, four years, three years, and 10 months, she expressed immense gratitude for her supportive network.

“This means everything to me because I went through a lot handling school and my kids,” she remarked. She concluded with optimism about her future, stating, “I cannot wait to reach the goal I am pursuing right now, and with all the support I have, I am positive that I will be able to achieve it.”

This story serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance and the vital role family support plays in personal success. It also highlights that even amid challenges, determination and hard work can lead to fulfilling one’s dreams.
