Priyashna Shivangni Sagar’s inspiring journey from facing financial adversities to graduating as the top student in Bachelor of Commerce and Accounting at Fiji National University’s College of Humanities and Education is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit. Her recent graduation has been a moment of deep emotion and gratitude, highlighting her commitment to education as a pathway to success.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Ms. Sagar attributes much of her determination to her parents, who held firm to the belief that education is the cornerstone of a brighter future. “My parents have always taught me that education is the key to success,” she noted, emphasizing the crucial values instilled in her since childhood.
Being the youngest of three siblings, Ms. Sagar was inspired by her older brother, who took it upon himself to support her and serve as a motivational figure. He played a significant role in her academic journey by ensuring she stayed focused, reminding her of their family’s sacrifices along the way.
Her parents, Sunita Devi and Ram Sagar, worked tirelessly despite encountering significant financial hardships to provide their children with educational opportunities. They often faced challenges in paying school fees, which led to moments of distress. “We faced a lot of financial difficulties, so I know for sure that even though we didn’t receive free education, paying for school fees was really hard for us,” Ms. Sagar recalled.
Despite such obstacles, she excelled in her studies, thanks to supportive initiatives like bus fare assistance and the National Toppers Scheme, which provided critical financial support that allowed her to continue her education without burdening her parents with further debts.
Her narrative of resilience does not end with her graduation. Currently employed and with her brother contributing to the family’s income, Ms. Sagar is optimistic about their shared future, stating, “My brother has a job, I’m working and we’re slowly getting there.”
Ms. Sagar expresses her desire to inspire others who may be facing similar struggles, sending a hopeful message: “I want kids to know that it’s not always going to be hard — there are better days ahead.”
This story demonstrates that perseverance, coupled with a strong support system, can lead to remarkable achievements. It serves as a beacon of hope for those experiencing hardships, illustrating that with determination and community support, a brighter future is indeed possible.
This uplifting narrative not only celebrates individual success but also reinforces the value of education and family support in overcoming life’s challenges.
