Jone Qilatabu embarked on a transformative journey before proudly stepping onto the parade ground as a fully-fledged policeman yesterday. Once focused on the rugby field, Qilatabu faced challenges stemming from a lack of steady employment and income, which diminished his confidence. However, everything changed when he successfully completed a rigorous 16-week basic recruit course and was accepted into the Fiji Police Force as a special constable.

Originally from Bau in Tailevu, Qilatabu describes how the training not only reshaped him physically but also bolstered his mental and emotional resilience. No longer the shy individual he once was, he now radiates confidence, discipline, and a compelling commitment to serve his community. “I am ready now,” he said with clarity, emphasizing the importance of the lessons and values he absorbed during his training.

His proud mother, Senimili Seini, stood by him during this milestone moment, reflecting on her own challenging journey as a single mother raising three sons. With the elder brothers already serving as civil servants, Qilatabu’s achievements brought tears of joy and pride to her eyes as she attended the passing-out parade in Nasova. “I am very proud of him. Raising my boys alone was not easy but today makes it all worth it,” she expressed.

At just 23 years old, Qilatabu shares a message of hope and perseverance with other young people navigating uncertainty: “Live well, stay faithful and let perseverance guide the way.” His story serves as an inspiring testament to overcoming obstacles and pursuing one’s dreams, encouraging others to stay dedicated to their paths. Through his dedication and hard work, Qilatabu is now on a mission to contribute positively to his community, embodying the values of service and resilience.
