Yolanda Krystel Goundar, a 35-year-old woman, accepted a Trophy of Excellence after completing her Post-Graduate Diploma in Midwifery, embodying the spirit of resilience with her mantra, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” She was among 35 students who achieved this esteemed recognition.
Juggling her educational pursuits alongside the responsibilities of motherhood has presented significant challenges for Ms. Goundar. However, the unwavering support of her family has played a crucial role in her success, providing her with the strength needed to navigate through demanding times.
“I can’t express how grateful I am for the strong family support I’ve had throughout this journey, especially my close circle of friends who have morally supported me during some of my toughest moments,” Ms. Goundar remarked. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her mother and siblings, who consistently assisted with caring for her children during her exams and study periods.
Driven by her passion for newborns, Ms. Goundar emphasized that her interactions with experienced nurses and doctors significantly enhanced her understanding of midwifery. She acknowledged the dual importance of caring for both babies and their mothers, which has fueled her motivation to further her education.
Currently, she is a registered nurse at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital. Ms. Goundar also shared an inspirational message, saying, “Trust God and never lose faith in him.”
