Four players from Lami High School’s under-19 rugby team have achieved a remarkable feat by earning a spot in the renowned Swire Shipping Fijian Drua Academy, demonstrating that dedication can lead to success.
The announcement of their selection was met with great excitement and emotion as the players received the news from the Drua management, including trainer and supporter Sireli Bobo.
Hailing from a smaller school, this achievement highlights the rewards of hard work and determination. The selected players—Ro Mocelutu Macanawai, Inia Colatanavanua, Vilimoni Raivasi, and Isoa Laulaba—are now set to embark on this promising journey.
Team manager Adilina Motea expressed deep pride in their success, emphasizing its significance for both the school and the players. She stressed the primary goal is the well-being and future opportunities for the students, whether in sports or academics.
“It is a big achievement for us. We are pleased to see that our efforts are making a meaningful impact on our boys,” Motea stated. “Our focus is on benefiting the students first; any recognition that comes afterward is secondary. Our main aim is to help these kids succeed in life, whether in sports or academics.”
The school recognizes rugby as a vital pathway to success, with the potential to secure fruitful contracts for young athletes abroad.
“The truth is, rugby is a significant source of income and it has the potential to support many young boys in their futures,” Motea added.
The inclusion of these four players in the Drua Academy marks a significant milestone for Lami High School, showcasing the untapped talent present among its students.
In addition, the Deans semi-finals competition is scheduled to take place at HFC Bank Stadium and Bidesi Park this Saturday.
