Ravikash Chand, a recent graduate from the University of Fiji’s School of Business and Economics, expressed heartfelt gratitude for his parents’ presence during his significant academic achievement. At the age of 33, he celebrated earning a Master of Commerce in Accounting, receiving a gold medal as recognition for his outstanding performance in his studies.
Mr. Chand, who teaches at Pandit Vishnu Deo Memorial College, shared that his elderly parents traveled from Labasa to witness his graduation ceremony in Lautoka. He credited their unwavering support and sacrifices for laying the foundation of his success, stating, “I am thankful that they came to witness their labor was not in vain. They have invested so much in my future.”
Coming from humble beginnings, with his father working as a laborer who previously cut sugarcane to afford his education, Mr. Chand emphasized how their struggles fueled his determination. He expressed the desire to serve as a role model for his siblings, encouraging them to overcome obstacles and strive for their goals, regardless of their background.
Since starting his teaching career in 2012 at All Saints Secondary School in Labasa, Mr. Chand has balanced his responsibilities as a father of two with his academic pursuits.
