Anshu Devi, a well-known figure at the Shop N Save Supermarket in Votualevu, has been operating a bean cart business since 2008, offering an array of snacks, food packs, and Indian sweets. Her journey into entrepreneurship was inspired by a desire for independence and to be her own boss, a sentiment shared by many other entrepreneurs like Payal Prasad, who chose self-employment over traditional office jobs.

Anshu balances multiple business ventures, running a canteen and offering catering services for events like weddings and anniversaries. Her commitment and partnership with her husband have turned these ventures into a successful family business that supports her children’s education. Two of her three children are currently attending university, while the youngest is in primary school. All family members, including her husband and children, contribute to the business, particularly in the production and sale of sweets.

With the support of organizations like the South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS), Anshu has expanded her business. She recently completed MSME training, reinforcing her knowledge and compliance in tax matters, further strengthening her entrepreneurial foundation.

Looking to the future, Anshu has ambitions of expanding her business into the restaurant industry, leveraging her son’s studies in hotel management to achieve this goal. This reflects a continuous drive to innovate and grow, despite the demanding nature of small business operations.

Anshu Devi’s story exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit seen in other businesswomen like Payal Prasad, who navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship with resilience and creativity. Their journeys reflect a broader trend of women successfully turning to entrepreneurship to achieve financial independence while supporting their families.
