Joshika Lata’s journey is a powerful testament to resilience and the transformative nature of education. Recently appointed as the General Manager of the JP Bayly Trust, a charitable organization dedicated to supporting those in need, her inspiring story echoes the experiences of others who have faced adversity.
Ms. Lata began her educational path in 1990 at the Frank Hilton School, a facility designed for students with disabilities. Throughout her early years, she encountered significant hurdles, including bullying linked to a physical deformity in her arms. However, she remained steadfast in her belief that education could alter her life’s trajectory. “Growing up in a poor family, I recognized the transformative power of education,” she stated, a conviction that made her graduation a pivotal moment in her life.
After completing her secondary education at DAV College in Nabua, she continued her studies at the Fiji Institute of Technology, earning a diploma in business management in 2005. Ms. Lata embarked on her career as a spare parts clerk, but her ambition and strong work ethic, instilled by her father, motivated her to transition into accounting roles. Despite the challenges of balancing work and study, she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fiji National University (FNU) and later pursued a postgraduate degree.
Joining the JP Bayly Trust in 2018, her dedication and hard work culminated in her appointment as General Manager in April 2024—a significant milestone that left her in tears of joy. Today, she is committed to mentoring youth facing similar challenges, affirming, “I believe I can inspire new recruits and youths to strive for success, regardless of adversity.”
