Fiji’s Chief Executive Officer of the Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS), Udit Singh, has delivered a strong message to criminals following the apprehension of a 33-year-old Fijian man at Nadi International Airport on January 31, 2025. The individual was caught attempting to smuggle nearly 2.3 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine into the country.
Singh credited the agency’s newly formed passenger intelligence and targeting unit for its critical role in the successful interception of the suspect. This incident highlights FRCS’s commitment to fortifying border security as their officers undergo continuous training, both domestically and internationally, to effectively combat smuggling efforts.
The illicit drugs were hidden within food products and a backpack designed with concealed compartments. This case has been handed over to the Fiji Police Force for further investigation. Singh reiterated FRCS’s determination to tackle drug trafficking and cautioned would-be smugglers that the agency is vigilant in its mission to protect Fiji from illegal substances.
This proactive stance taken by the FRCS serves to bolster the nation’s defenses against drug-related crimes and reinforces collaborative efforts to maintain a secure environment for all citizens.
