SUVA, FIJI – The Fiji National University (FNU) welcomed the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) for a courtesy visit at its Nasinu Campus on Tuesday, February 24, 2025. This meeting was pivotal for fostering discussions on TSLS’s mandates, key operational matters, recent developments, and future initiatives aimed at supporting students throughout their academic endeavors.
FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba expressed gratitude for the visit, highlighting the importance of open communication in promoting student success. She noted that the discussions reinforced the commitment of both institutions to uphold transparency and fairness in their scholarship and loan processes. “Today’s engagement has been both reassuring and forward-looking. It strengthens our collective commitment to ensuring that students are well-informed, appropriately supported, and treated equitably. When our systems are aligned and communication is clear, students are empowered to focus on learning, growth, and their future contributions to Fiji,” Professor Nabobo-Baba remarked.
Professor Nabobo-Baba emphasized that partnerships based on trust and shared goals are crucial for national development. She acknowledged the TSLS’s ongoing commitment to broadening educational access and expressed hope that close collaboration would alleviate uncertainties for students, facilitating the creation of inclusive and sustainable educational pathways.
The TSLS delegation was led by Board Chair Na Gone Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi – Ro Teimumu Vuikaba Kepa and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Apisalome Movono. Dr. Movono highlighted TSLS’s proactive approach within the higher education ecosystem, stating, “TSLS and FNU, like other tertiary institutions, are part of the same higher education ecosystem. Our shared responsibility extends beyond merely admitting students; we must collaborate to ensure their success. It is essential to provide support as they transition into university life, especially in light of the challenges faced by today’s Generation Z and millennial learners.”
Echoing this sentiment, TSLS Board Chair Ro Teimumu Vuikaba Kepa underscored the significance of ongoing cooperation, affirming that a closer partnership between TSLS and FNU would enhance educational outcomes for students across Fiji.
