The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) is currently developing a new medical insurance scheme designed to enhance the quality of life for its members. This initiative aligns with the Fund’s strategic goal of providing relevant products that cater to the healthcare needs of its members.

Viliame Vodonaivalu, the chief executive officer of FNPF, confirmed that the new insurance scheme is still in the development phase. The Fund is committed to ensuring that the scheme adheres to all regulatory and technical standards before it is officially launched. Vodonaivalu emphasized that like other products offered by the Fund, this medical insurance will come with specific eligibility criteria that will be shared once the scheme’s design is finalized.

The aim of this insurance scheme is to give members access to quality healthcare, particularly at tertiary levels. While it focuses on current members, Vodonaivalu noted that there are considerations to extend similar benefits to pensioners in the near future.

In November 2024, FNPF issued an expression of interest for the Members Medical Insurance policy, which attracted positive responses. The submission period for bids closed at the end of December of the same year. The FNPF is now looking to engage the successful bidder once the expression of interest process is complete.

Once launched, this medical insurance scheme is poised to provide essential healthcare support to FNPF members, further diversifying the Fund’s offerings to accommodate the needs of its evolving membership.

This initiative reflects FNPF’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of its members and addressing their healthcare needs, which is a vital aspect of any financial and social support system. The move is hopeful, indicating a forward-thinking approach to providing comprehensive benefits that contribute to a healthier society.
