The 2025 FMF Inter-District Championship (IDC) will now take place at Churchill Park in Lautoka from October 7-12, a change from its originally planned venue at the new 4R Stadium in Govind Park, Ba. The decision arose when the Ba Town Council informed the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) that it could not provide the necessary floodlights for night matches. Initially, the Council had assured the Fiji FA that temporary lighting arrangements were in progress.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel expressed disappointment over the change but emphasized the necessity for the tournament’s smooth operation. “We were all looking forward to bringing the FMF IDC to Ba; however, with the floodlights not available, we had to make a prompt decision. Churchill Park has confirmed its availability, and we are confident the tournament will be a success in Lautoka,” he stated.

The FMF IDC is a significant event on the Fiji FA calendar, featuring participation from all 20 districts across three divisions, and it attracts fans from all over the nation and abroad.

While the relocation may be viewed as a setback for Ba, the Fiji FA has acknowledged the Council’s prior support and is optimistic about the prospect of future events in the area, contingent on meeting floodlight requirements. This presents an opportunity for Ba to host significant football matches in the future once the necessary facilities are secured.

This situation illustrates the challenges inherent in organizing sports events, particularly concerning venue logistics and infrastructure. Nevertheless, the Fiji FA’s adaptability ensures that the IDC will still go ahead, promising an exciting atmosphere for fans and players at Churchill Park.

The local community’s enthusiasm for the sport remains strong, indicating that future initiatives to accommodate evening matches in Ba might bear fruit. Fans can remain hopeful that in the coming years, the town will be able to host the IDC under ideal conditions, revitalizing local football culture again.
