Rewa Rugby Union has made significant strides in its grassroots development efforts, culminating in a promising sponsorship agreement with Flour Mills of Fiji (FMF) for the upcoming rugby season. This deal, finalized at the FMF head office in Walu Bay, Suva, is a landmark achievement for the club, marking the first time they have secured comprehensive sponsorship across all levels of their rugby operations.
The partnership will bolster Rewa’s initiatives across various teams, including the club competition, U20s, senior women’s, and senior men’s teams, as they prepare for the eagerly anticipated Vanua Championship. Maria Kumar, FMF’s Group Marketing Manager, highlighted the club’s relentless spirit in pursuing success without external support, saying, “Looking at their proposal, something that really touched us, that without a sponsorship, they made every effort.”
Rewa Rugby Union President Ro Macanawai Mataitini expressed heartfelt appreciation for the collaboration, stating, “This partnership will directly strengthen our programmes, support our players and coaches and help us grow the game right.” The club is set to kick off its rugby season on March 21 with the FMF Rewa 10s tournament, an event that promises to be exciting for both players and fans.
This sponsorship not only demonstrates FMF’s commitment to community support but also represents a tremendous opportunity for Rewa Rugby Union to enhance its programs and foster the sport among young athletes. The collaboration signals a hopeful future for rugby in the region, encouraging more community involvement and development in the sport.
