The Fiji Rugby Union is currently focused on organizing the logistics for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians as they prepare for the inaugural Nations Championship scheduled for July. With their home games in the UK confirmed, a delegation from the FRU, including general manager of high-performance, Nacanieli Cawanibuka, CEO Koli Sewabu, and directors Cathy Wong and Lailanie Burnes, is in London to explore various logistical options for the team.

FRU board chairman John Sanday shared insights on the team’s plans, indicating that the decision will revolve around whether to base the Flying Fijians at a single training camp and travel for each game, or to set up multiple camps across Wales, England, and Scotland. Sanday expressed a preference for a single base to minimize travel, ensuring that the players remain well-rested and fully prepared for the matches.

Funding is a critical factor in determining the logistics plan, with the FRU expecting a participation fee of US$2 million, which is intended to support the team’s expenses. Negotiations are underway to ensure that travel and preparation costs are managed efficiently without compromising the quality of the team’s performance.

The Flying Fijians are set to make their championship debut against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium on July 4, which promises to be an exciting match as the team gears up for a competitive tournament. The strategic preparation by the FRU reflects their commitment to delivering a strong performance while keeping player welfare at the forefront. This thoughtful approach highlights the growing professionalism in Fijian rugby, aiming for success on the international stage.
