The head coach of the Fiji Water Flying Fijians, Mick Byrne, is looking forward to ending the year positively as the team prepares to face Scotland, Spain, and Ireland in a series of Test matches next month. Byrne aims to deliver strong performances against these challenging Tier 1 teams, particularly since these matches will take place on the opponents’ home fields.

Byrne is enthusiastic about the upcoming games against Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, highlighting the unique experience they will provide for some of the newer members of the squad. He noted, “It’s an exciting time, we had a good year, and we finished the Pacific Nations Cup on a high. The players had a good breather, the Northern Hemisphere players did well last week, and it’s great to see some of our players performing well.”

He pointed out that while the crowds at these venues may not be hostile, the passionate support for the home teams contributes to a vibrant atmosphere. Byrne feels encouraged as the team builds momentum ahead of the November Tests. He emphasized that the unity among players is crucial, viewing the upcoming matches as an excellent opportunity to strengthen team cohesion and conclude the year positively.

“It’s an exciting time as we come together. We have four exciting games lined up against Tier 1 nations. This puts us in a good place to prepare for the World Cup in 2027, but more importantly, it allows us to finish the year on a high as a group of players,” he said.

The Flying Fijians’ schedule includes a match against Scotland at 5:40 AM next Sunday at Murrayfield, followed by a game against Wales on November 11 at 1:40 AM at the Millennium Stadium in Wales. They will face Spain on November 17 at 2:00 AM at the José Zorrilla Stadium in Spain, and conclude their November series against Ireland on November 24 at 3:10 AM at the Aviva Stadium.
