Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne will meet with the Fiji Rugby Union board this week to review the team’s recent performances. FRU chief executive officer Rovereto Nayacalevu mentioned that this is standard practice, as the board assesses all aspects of performance at the end of each campaign.
“The head coach has returned from Australia and will provide a report on the recent tour this week,” Nayacalevu stated.
In response to whether the board was satisfied with the Flying Fijians’ recent performance, Nayacalevu acknowledged, “Although the outcome against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory over Georgia and the improvement in our world ranking following that match are positive aspects to build on moving forward.”
Nayacalevu also highlighted concerns regarding limited access to players, given that the match against the Barbarians in Twickenham occurred during the Super Rugby season and outside the World Rugby access window. “These are two areas of concern,” he added.
He emphasized that all staff members, including Coach Byrne, have key performance indicators (KPIs) outlined in their job descriptions. “Any directives will be given after the review process once Coach Mick is back on the island,” he said.
Moreover, Nayacalevu confirmed that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has submitted her resignation following the recent tour.
