A flash flood warning is currently in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas within the Northern Division. Commissioner Uraia Rainima emphasized the importance of swift communication when the Fiji Meteorological Service issued a strong wind warning on Saturday. In response, he convened a meeting with leaders from critical services, including the Fiji Roads Authority, Fiji Police, and the National Fire Authority.
Mr. Rainima reported that despite heavy rainfall in recent days, the connecting roads throughout the island remained clear over the weekend. He also added that stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, have been notified to prepare schools designated as evacuation centers.
All necessary measures are in place to handle any emergencies that may arise. Commissioner Rainima underscored the need for community members to prioritize safety, urging families to relocate to safer locations ahead of any potential flooding events.
This proactive approach by local authorities showcases their commitment to safeguarding the community during adverse weather conditions. By ensuring clear communication and preparedness, they aim to minimize risks and protect lives, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility in times of crisis.
