After five years of deep affection and shared experiences, Oliver Frank Turner and Bernadette Raewyn Elliot Turner celebrated their marriage last week in Nakasi, surrounded by close family and friends. The couple tied the knot at the same venue where their love story began, the Ebenezer Tabernacle Church, a full-circle moment that added to the significance of their special day.
Oliver, originally from Wainunu, Bua, with ties to Mokani, Tailevu, and Bernadette, who hails from Vunavutu Village in Nadroga with maternal connections to Pepjei and Scotland, first met in 2019. Their bond quickly strengthened despite the challenges of grief and distance.
Recalling their initial meeting, Bernadette described her nerves, stating, “I’m quiet and shy in nature so I was nervous to even talk to him. Surprisingly, we got along well after talking.” She referred to Oliver as her best friend and a vital part of her life, adding that she believes he was chosen for her through prayer.
The couple faced profound personal losses during their relationship; both experienced the death of close family members in 2021. Bernadette said, “We supported each other through our grief and tried to help each other heal from the loss.” Their commitment to one another during these tough times strengthened their relationship, as they made an effort to check in daily and offer mutual support.
Oliver found in Bernadette a kind and beautiful partner. He shared his feelings, saying, “She puts others first before herself… She stole my heart the first time I saw her.” His love for her grew even stronger as he realized how essential she was to his life, prompting him to propose.
As they embark on this new chapter in their lives as husband and wife, Oliver and Bernadette express excitement about their future, acknowledging the learning and growth that lies ahead. They are committed to building a life together filled with love, stability, and shared dreams.
The couple expressed immense gratitude to their parents and siblings for their unwavering support and acknowledged their families in Fiji and overseas for joining them on their wedding day. Their celebration also featured a wedding cake from Leila’s Sugar Bliss, adding a sweet touch to the festivities. Oliver and Bernadette’s love story serves as a testament to resilience and hope, promising a joyful future together.
