Loraini Seru, the esteemed former head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has received a notable promotion to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to lead the Internal Affairs and Professional Standards Unit. This decision was announced by Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, who emphasized that the appointment resulted from a thorough evaluation process conducted by a promotion board comprising both internal and external members, underlining the merit-based nature of such advancements.

Commissioner Tudravu highlighted the significance of ACP Seru being the first female officer to ascend to the rank of Assistant Commissioner, a milestone that is poised to inspire not only other women officers but also young girls aspiring to join the law enforcement field. He reiterated the commitment to meritocracy in appointments and promotions while encouraging women in the police force to seize any opportunities that arise.

Originally from Tonia village in Tailevu with maternal roots in Rewasa, Rakiraki in Ra, Seru is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy in the United States. She embarked on her policing career in 1995 and has notably served in the Western and Central Divisions, ultimately taking on a role at the CID Headquarters in Toorak.

In her distinguished career, ACP Seru became the first officer to be seconded to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) from 2006 to 2010 and was later selected for a two-year tour of duty in Liberia, reflecting her commitment to international policing standards. In 2020, she was appointed Deputy Chair of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Women Advisory Network and was honored with the Policewoman of the Year award at the 2022 Fiji Police Women Excellence Awards.

Further enhancing her credentials, ACP Seru has earned certificates from the Australian Institute of Police Management in Sydney and participated in Anti-Money Laundering and Fraud training sessions in Korea and New Zealand. In her new role, she emphasizes the plethora of opportunities available within the Fiji Police Force, urging her fellow women officers to explore areas traditionally dominated by men.
