The investigation led by the Commission of Inquiry is expected to conclude this week, as confirmed by the chairperson, Edwin Wainiqolo, during an interview. Wainiqolo stated that only one individual remains to be interviewed: Fredy Chand, the former promoter for South Pacific Boxing Promotions.

This investigation was initiated following the tragic incident that resulted in the death of Ubayd Haider. Wainiqolo indicated that Mohammed Shameem has already been interviewed, and expressed gratitude towards Chand for his willingness to assist with the inquiry. However, the interview with Chand, who resides overseas, could not take place as planned due to time zone differences.

Wainiqolo emphasized that the findings from the investigation will be presented directly to Jese Saukuru, the Minister of Youth and Sports. Should there be a need for further clarification regarding the findings, a press conference will be held to discuss the key issues and outcomes.

This investigation highlights the commitment to clarity and accountability in the sport, especially following such tragic events. The cooperation of those involved, like Fredy Chand, reflects a collective effort to ensure the safety and integrity of boxing in the region.

Overall, while the inquiry is focused on a serious incident, it also represents an opportunity for improvement in the sport’s governance, potentially leading to better practices and regulations in the future.
